The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) gathered key industry players and stakeholders in the two-day “#MineResponsibility: KnowMINE, KnowLIFE – Promoting Safe and Responsible Mining for a Better Normal” virtual forum, November 18-19, 8:30 am to 12:00 nn, via the Zoom platform and Facebook Live.

Coinciding with the 2021 Mining Month Celebration, this activity aims to share the recent mining policies released by the MGB to various mining industry stakeholders, and spread awareness on the Bureau’s mandates in promoting responsible mining for national development.

The first day highlighted sessions on raising public awareness about geohazards, communicating responsible mining to non-miners, and promoting metallurgical development. It also presented the minerals sector’s goals and actions in support of the Sustainable Development Goals, and experiences in facing the challenges and opportunities in environmental management and community development.

Meanwhile, the second day focused on policy discussions, such as the institutionalization and implementation of reforms in the mining sector following the issuance of Department Administrative Order (DAO) No. 2021-25 re: Implementing Rules and Regulations of Executive Order No. 130; the Revised Guidelines on Offshore Mining (MGB Memorandum Circular [MC] No. 2020-008); Disposition of Residual Stockpile (DAO No. 2021-29); and the One Mineral Production Sharing Agreement, One Operator Policy.

Key MGB officials also tackled the efforts to ensure mine safety, environmental protection, and social development for all; and the promotion of marine resources and geosciences development in the country.
