The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) MIMAROPA Region held a virtual capacity building to equip members of Multipartite Monitoring Teams (MMTs) of mineral processing plants (MPPs) in Palawan and Oriental Mindoro, February 18, via Zoom.

This activity is pursuant to Section 185 of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Administrative Order (DAO) No. 2010 – 21, Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act No. 7942, otherwise known as the Philippine Mining Act of 1995, where an MMT shall be deputized by the Mine Rehabilitation Fund Committee (MRFC) to serve as its monitoring arm where active mining operations exist.

In his message, MGB MIMAROPA Regional Director Edwin M. Mojares emphasized the need to capacitate the MMT members in terms of monitoring and report writing as the MMT acts as monitoring arm of the MRFC.

Resource persons from the MGB MIMAROPA Region and Environmental Management Bureau (EMB) MIMAROPA Region provided MMT members from Premium Megastructures Inc., Universal Basalt Aggregates Corp., and Montalban Concrete and Asphalt Inc. with an overview of various laws and standards in monitoring MPPs, the MMT’s role in ensuring that the processing plants are operating in a socially acceptable and environmentally sound manner, and the introduction of the MMT Manual of Operation, among others.
