Aimed at involving the citizenry in the protection and conservation of the country’s environment and natural resources, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) MIMAROPA Region spearheaded the Deputation Training for Mines and Capacity Building for Local Government Unit (LGU) permit holders in the Province of Palawan, May 26-27, in Puerto Princesa City.
Participants were oriented about the legal basis of the deputation of Environment and Natural Resources Officers, and the salient features of Republic Act No. 7942 (Philippine Mining Act of 1995) and Republic Act No. 7076 (People's Small-Scale Mining Act of 1991).
There were also discussions about permits in the extraction, removal, disposition, and transportation of sand and gravel (SAG) and quarry materials; mineral processing and certificate of accreditation; new mining policies; and the programs and activities of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-MGB to combat illegal mining.
Technical personnel from the MGB MIMAROPA Region also tackled the reportorial requirements for permit holders; the guidelines for the extraction of SAG materials; and gender and development in small-scale mining, SAG, and quarry areas.
